Target Audience: New PharmD graduates completing post-doctoral training (residency or fellowship) in the state of Indiana

Learning objectives: At the conclusion of this program, the participants will be able to:

  1. Describe four common teaching methodologies
  2. Recommend approaches to motivate students to learn
  3. Describe mechanisms to deal with cases of academic dishonesty
  4. List strategies to establish to good relationships with your students
  5. Demonstrate the ability to write specific learning objectives for a CE presentation or classroom lecture
  6. Prepare an effective handout for a CE presentation or classroom lecture
  7. Demonstrate the ability to write thought-provoking test questions
  8. Lists strategies for use of discussion in the learning process
  9. List appropriate mechanisms for management of students who are not meeting expectations during a clerkship rotation
  10. Develop a teaching portfolio documenting your teaching philosophy

Fees and financial support: No fees are required to participate in this program. A grant proposal was submitted and is pending approval for financial support for this program. Full disclosure will be made to the participants when funding has been approved.

In order to receive credit for this program, the participant must attend 12 seminar sessions, engage in 15 hours of teaching activity, attend a participant presentation session, submit a teaching portfolio by April 7, 2010, and complete evaluations for individual seminar sessions and overall program. No partial credit will be given. Statements of CE credit will be mailed directly to the participant.

Schedule of seminars: August 26, September 9, 23, 30, Oct 7, 14, 28, Nov 4, 11, 18, Dec 2, 2009, April 7, 2010. All sessions are scheduled at 4:00 – 6:00 pm (Indianapolis location to be determined).
