Research

Professor Bennett is involved statewide, nationally, and internationally in the development, implementation, and evaluation of specialized training programs for practicing pharmacists. These programs emphasize enhancement of knowledge and skills with assignments that apply them directly to the participant's practice. Thus, the mission of Pharmacy Continuing Education is to partner with pharmacists to advance practice. The educational model for these programs utilizes a problem-oriented approach. Specific programs include diabetes care, asthma care and general pharmaceutical care. In addition, Professor Bennett has developed and implemented the International Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy Program centered in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and involving students throughout the Middle East. Specific teaching interests include management of diabetes mellitus and recurrent headache syndromes in addition to Integrated Labs involving communication skills. Research in these programs is centered on measuring the program's impact on the participant's practice. Impact can be measured through participant self-assessment, peer assessment, development of patient care services, and precepting focused advanced clerkship students. Professor Bennett works closely with other senior departmental faculty and graduate students to develop and implement these research opportunities. He has published more than 75 scientific and professional articles and has given more than 70 research and professional presentations at national meetings.
