Research

Professor Mason's research focuses on the application of the social, behavioral, and administrative sciences to problems in pharmacy practice and education. His three general areas of research are career path research, which includes investigations of job satisfaction, pharmacist practice patterns and professional commitment; student outcome assessment, which focuses on methodologies to assess performance-based student outcomes in pharmacy education; and patient-oriented pharmacy services, which involves studies of patient counseling, consumer perceptions and use of pharmacy services as well as barriers to the delivery of services.

He has published some 70 scientific and professional articles and has presented approximately 100 research and professional papers at national pharmacy meetings. Professor Mason has also received funding totaling more than one million dollars in his areas of expertise and has been active as a consultant on several pharmacy-related projects. He has served as major professor for sixteen Ph.D. students. He is interested in matters related to professional and graduate education and has been a member of various committees focusing on such issues of concern at Purdue and with national pharmacy organizations.
