Research

Dr. Nichols' research focuses on exploring the pharmacist’s role in substance use disorder (SUD) interventions and patient care. Her passion for this space is driven by her lived experiences growing up in a home where her mother struggled with alcohol use disorder.  To date, Dr. Nichols' scholarly efforts have specifically explored the following areas: (1) pharmacists’ knowledge and perceptions of opioids, opioid alternatives (e.g., cannabinoids), and medications for opioid use disorder; (2) pharmacists’ education and training on effective, evidence-based opioid interventions; and (3) efforts to advance community pharmacy practice. Dr. Nichols has received research support from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the American Pharmacists Association Foundation.
