The Chao Center, located in Purdue Research Park, West Lafayette, Indiana, provides non-sterile cGMP manufacturing of clinical trial and small-scale commercial materials, analytical testing, formulation development, and related regulatory documentation. The Chao Center delivers industrial know-how and contract drug manufacturing services with a commitment to quality, flexibility, and client satisfaction and is dedicated to preeminence in pharmaceutical education, development, and manufacturing. A clerkship at The Chao Center will allow the student to: 1. Acquire a basic knowledge of the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry beginning with marketing strategy through contract negotiation, formulation, development and production; 2. Receive hands-on experience on multiple pieces of pharmaceutical manufacturing equipment, such a Zanasi encapsulator, Key International capsule polisher, Manesty tablet press, fluid bed dryer, and tablet film coater; 3. Design and write Standard Operating Procedures; 4. Develop Equipment History Files; 5. Work with Quality Assurance to ensure regulatory compliance; 6. Become familiar with various laboratory procedures involving stability chambers and HPLCs. 7. Begin to understand Formulation and Analytical Development
