Osco Rotation—Munster, IndianaRotation DescriptionThis rotation combines two aspects of retail pharmacy--Disease State Management and Pharmacy Operations. Throughout the rotation, students will be exposed to both managerial aspects of retail pharmacy and clinical patient care. The rotation is based at Osco Pharmacy in Munster, IN; however there is limited activity at the store location. A typical day would involve one of the following:· Travel Day—involves traveling to various Osco Pharmacies to assist in operational skills or diabetes workflow/standards.· Office Day—involves working at the Osco Corporate Office in Franklin Park, IL. Includes a variety of activities such as planning special projects, organizing health fairs, and overseeing activities of diabetes educators. Students from Northwest Indiana, tend to meet the preceptor at the Osco in Munster and travel throughout the day or to the office. The working day often begins early and ends late, however students are never expected to work more than 40 hours within each week. Students may perform clerical duties from time to time throughout the rotation as the job description dictates. Students will never be expected to perform a duty the preceptor would not also complete. Rotation ObjectivesDiabetes Care 1. Gain a working knowledge of providing clinical services in a retail pharmacy setting. 2. Gain a clear understanding of diabetes care and its treatment. 3. Learn to use and provide training on various glucose monitors and insulin injection devices through hands-on training. 4. Complete at least 1 oral presentation on diabetes mellitus in a group setting to patients with diabetes. 5. Present at least 1 patient case study involving diabetes. 6. Train at least 1 patient on how to use their glucose monitor. 7. Prepare various presentations as rotation time-frame allows. Pharmacy Operations1. Understand the operational expectations at an Osco pharmacy. 2. Gain an understanding of the tools used to meet operational standards. 3. Assist in promotional aspects within the pharmacy, if possible. |
